How Trauma Affects You During Family Changes

When you're going through any family law issues, the impact of trauma can make everything feel harder. It can affect your thoughts, emotions, and the way you make decisions. You might notice some of these responses:

Fight – Feeling angry, tense, or on edge all the time.

Flight – Trying to avoid conversations, shutting down, or feeling overwhelmed.

Freeze – Feeling stuck, disconnected, or unable to focus.

Fawn – Saying ‘yes’ to everything, even if it’s not what you want, just to keep the peace.

We understand how these responses can affect every part of your family law experience - from mediation, to writing letters, to parenting, to court hearings and many other issues. We're here to help you recognise what you’re feeling, find your strength, and make decisions that truly support your well-being.
